Oyate Health Center grand opening

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Sioux San Hospital has a new name and some new faces. The hospital will now be known as Oyate Health Center and has some very passionate and driven individuals looking to help out their native community.

Sioux San was ran by the Indian Health Service, but the Oyate will be ran by tribal members of the community. Members from the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and Oglala Sioux Tribe are working together with the community to make the right changes for the hospital.

The facility was blessed with a traditional smudging ritual where they burnt sage and herbs throughout the building to bless it. After all was said and done they sang a traditional Native American song to conclude the ceremony.
