OST DPS arrest nine individuals on drug charges
PINE RIDGE, S.D. — From September 2020 to January 2021, the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety has arrested nine individuals in a drug bust.
The cases are being investigated by the Badlands Safe Trails Task Force which is a combination of investigators from the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Bureau of Indian Affairs Division of Drug Enforcement, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigations, and Martin Police Department.
In September 2020, Marcus Pawnee Leggins of Kyle, S.D., was arrested on a federal warrant for for federal drug conspiracy charges relating to distributing over 50 grams of methamphetamine. The charge carries a mandatory minimum of five years of incarceration.
Throughout September 2020 and January 2021, the following individuals were arrested on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation:
- Paul Moore of Kyle, S.D.
- Frank Milk of Wanblee, S.D.
- Richard Lee Betteloyoun of Martin, S.D.
- Shadow Jensen of Martin, S.D.
- Tracy Jones of Martin, S.D.
- William “Bill” Reddy of Pine Ridge, S.D.
- Brett Schrum of Fort Morgan, Colorado
- Beau Imitates Dog of Martin, S.D.
All eight are currently under federal indictments for conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance over 500 grams. This charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years.
