One person killed in Meade County fatal crash

UNION CENTER, S.D. — One person died on Saturday, July 18 in a two-vehicle crash five miles west of Union Center.

The names of the two drivers involved aren’t being released at this time until proper notification has been given to family members. They were the only people involved.

A 1998 Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on South Dakota Highway 34 when it went across the center line and collided with a 1996 Peterbilt Tractor-Trailer that was pulling an empty gravel trailer.

The 26-year-old male driver of the Honda Civic was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 57-year-old male driver of the tractor-trailer was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this point.
