One killed in early morning motorcycle-versus-semi truck crash on I90

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A 31-year-old male died in an early-morning crash on Interstate 90 at mile marker 59.

The man, riding a 2011 Honda VT1300CX, was westbound on I90 when he failed to negotiate a left turn, lost control, and was thrown from the bike.

A westbound 2011 Volvo D13 semi-truck and trailer could not stop in time and ran over the motorcycle rider.

The rider was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants of the semi-truck – a 39 year-old-female driver and 31-year-old male passenger, were not injured.

No names have been released pending notification of next-of-kin.

Both westbound lanes of I90 were closed from mile marker 59 to mile marker 60 for about five hours. South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
