One injured, suspect arrested in Friday night stabbing at homeless camp in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. — On Friday, March 12, around 6:40 p.m., the Rapid City Police Department was called to a makeshift homeless camp between the Civic Center overflow lot and the bike path for a report of a stabbing.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement found a male with a stab wound to the leg. Police say they spoke with a number of highly-intoxicated witnesses, and named 44-year-old Christopher Firethunder as the suspect.

The male victim was taken to the hospital for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Police placed Firethunder under arrest for Aggravated Assault and an existing warrant and took him to the Pennington County Jail.
