One injured in Wednesday afternoon house fire

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Fire Department responded to a structure fire call at 2617 Lawndale Dr. around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.

On arrival, crews saw no smoke or flames coming from the home. EMS Division Chief Brent Long says that when crews got to the back door, they noticed thick smoke coming from the basement.

The male homeowner was found at the bottom of the stairs overcome by smoke. He has been taken to Monument and his condition is unknown at this time.

The cause of the fire has not been disclosed.
