One dead, three injured in Fall River County fatal crash

OELRICHS, S.D. — One person died and three others were injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Sunday afternoon south of Oelrichs.

Name of the individuals involved have not been released yet to the public due to proper notification of family members.

Around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, a 2017 GMC Sierra pickup was heading southbound on U.S. Highway 385 when it read-ended a Chevrolet Silverado pickup, which was towing a fifth-wheel trailer that was loaded with hay. When the two vehicles collided, the trailer pushed forward into the back of the Chevrolet.

The 71-year-old female passenger of the Sierra pickup was airlifted to a Rapid City hospital where she died from her injuries. The 72-year-old male driver received serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the Hot Springs hospital via ambulance.

Both occupants of the Silverado pickup, including the 50-year-old female driver and the 53-year old male passenger, suffered minor injuries. They later went to the Hot Springs hospital by private vehicle.

All four people were wearing seat belts. Charges are pending for both drivers.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol continue to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this point.
