One dead, one injured in one-vehicle crash east of Rapid City
RAPID CITY, S.D. — A one-vehicle crash on Highway 44 east of Rapid City has left one person dead and one injured Thursday evening.
Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 pickup was westbound on Highway 44 when the driver failed to negotiate a right turn. The vehicle went across the centerline, into a ditch and rolled.
Both vehicle occupants were not wearing seat belts and they were both thrown from the pickup.
A 40-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 22-year-old male sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. He was transferred to a Rapid City hospital.
The names of the two people involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and all information is only preliminary at this time.
