One dead, one injured in Monday motorcycle-vehicle crash

STURGIS, S.D. — A fatal motorcycle-vehicle crash occurred Monday, Aug. 2 on Interstate 90 leaving one dead and one injured.

A 47-year-old male was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse westbound on I-90 when the vehicle made a lane change from the left lane to the right lane. The Chevrolet struck a 2007 Boss Hoss motorcycle in the right lane, causing it to roll and come to rest in the ditch.

The motorcycle was carrying two occupants who were both thrown from the vehicle. The 74-year-old male driver of the motorcycle died of his injuries Friday, Aug. 6 in a Rapid City hospital, but the 68-year-old female passenger sustained serious non-life threatening injuries.

Both occupants of the motorcycle were wearing helmets.

There were three occupants in the Chevrolet who were all wearing seatbelts and sustained no injuries.

A charge is pending against the 47-year-old male driver.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, and all information is preliminary at this point.
