One dead, one arrested for First Degree Manslaughter after sibling altercation on Endeavor Street

Police LightsRAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Police Department has reported that 31-year old Danielle Houchin of Rapid City died after an incident between her and her brother that occurred on Endeavour Blvd at approximately 8 p.m. on Thursday night.

RCPD says that police were dispatched to the parking lot of 1415 Eglin Street for a report of an unresponsive female who was having CPR performed on her when they arrived. After a medical unit took over to perform emergency life-saving measures, the female was placed on an ambulance for transport to the hospital.

Police report that the Houchin died while being transported.

RCPD spoke to witnesses and learned that Houchin was in a vehicle with several other passengers who were drinking alcohol while driving for an app-based food delivery service. As the group stopped to pick up food at a restaurant on Endeavour Boulevard, 28-year-old male, Nicklaus Houchin confronted and proceeded to choke his sister. Danielle Houchin was unresponsive in the back of the vehicle while the group drove to Eglin Street and then called 911.

After police spoke with detectives, Nicklaus Houchin was placed under arrest for First Degree Manslaughter and remains in custody of the Pennington County Jail.

RCPD reports that the investigation into the incident remains active and ongoing, and is being conducted jointly with the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
