One dead in vehicle-vs-pedestrian crash on Omaha Street

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Shortly before 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, the Rapid City Police Department was dispatched to the area of East Boulevard and Omaha Street for a report of a vehicle that had struck a pedestrian near the intersection.

After speaking to witnesses, police learned the pedestrian had walked into Omaha Street mid-block between 1st Street and East Boulevard when they were struck by the westbound vehicle.

On arrival, police observed the driver of the vehicle performing emergency life-saving measures on the pedestrian. Police took over emergency life-saving measures until a medical unit arrived.

The medical unit transported them to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries sustained in the crash, where later RCPD learned that the pedestrian died of their injuries at the hospital.

The pedestrian’s identity is being withheld until proper notification of next-of-kin can be accomplished.

The RCPD’s Critical Accident Reconstruction Team is continuing the investigation into the fatal crash where they report that in the early stages of the investigation, speed nor alcohol appear to have been factors for the driver of the involved vehicle.
