One dead in one-vehicle crash east of Box Elder

BOX ELDER, S.D. — One person has died in a one-vehicle crash near the intersection of Highway 1416 and 151st Avenue east of Box Elder early Saturday morning.

Preliminary crash information indicates that at around 2:28 a.m., a 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo was westbound on Highway 1416 when it left the roadway and struck a guardrail then continued down the ditch and overturned.

The 51-year-old male driver was the only occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The name of the person involved is not being released pending notification of family members.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, and all information is preliminary at this point.
