One dead following Wednesday afternoon crash in Belle Fourche


UPDATE (6/17/21 @ 2:45 p.m.): South Dakota Highway Patrol confirms that a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier was northbound on Highway 85 in the inside driving lane when it crossed the turn lane and traveled into the southbound lanes.

The Cavalier sideswiped a southbound 2017 Ford F150 traveling in the inside driving lane, crossed into the outside southbound lane, and collided with a 2015 Peterbilt semi truck and trailer.

The 43-year-old male driver of the Cavalier was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two drivers were not injured.

Only the driver of the F150 was wearing a seatbelt.

Names of those involved are not yet being released pending notification of next-of-kin.

Fatal Crash GraphicBELLE FOURCHE, S.D. — Belle Fourche Police responded to a three-vehicle collision between a semi truck and trailer Wednesday afternoon.

The incident happened on U.S. Highway 85 near Summit Street.

The crash resulted in one fatality.

South Dakota Highway Patrol is the lead investigating agency, assisted by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office and the Belle Fourche Police Department.
