One dead following deputy-involved shooting on Radar Hill Road
UPDATE (5/14/21@ 6:28 p.m.): One man has died as the result of a deputy-involved shooting in Rapid Valley Friday afternoon.
The name of the deceased is not being released pending notification of next-of-kin.
The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies responded to a call to remove an intoxicated and out-of-control family member from a residence on Radar Hill Road around 3:25 p.m.
Multiple deputies were confronted by a male subject carrying a long gun. The man then leveled the gun in the direction of those on-scene and ignored commands to drop the weapon.
No law enforcement or bystanders were hurt during the incident.
Immediately following the shooting, PCSO turned over the scene to assisting South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers and Rapid City department officers. The investigation has since been handed over to the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, assisted by the Meade County Sheriff’s Office.
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom said that the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation into Friday’s deputy-involved shooting on Radar Hill Road in Rapid Valley.
Thom said that officers responded to a call for a disturbance at the home around 3:30 p.m. and were confronted by a man with a long gun, which prompted the shooting.
Thom adds the condition of the man shot is not being released at this time.
Officials confirm there is no danger to the public at this time.
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Local law enforcement agencies responded to Radar Hill Road near the intersection of Morris Lane Friday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. for what has been identified as a deputy-involved shooting.
Radar Hill Road is closed between Longview Road and Morris Lane.
