One dead and one injured in Meade County pickup truck rollover

PIEDMONT, S.D. – One person is dead and another person seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash Tuesday night east of Piedmont.

A 1997 GMC pickup was northbound on Galaxy Road near the intersection of 218th Street when the driver lost control on the snow and ice-covered road. The vehicle left the roadway and eventually rolled.

The 40-year-old passenger, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 36-year-old driver received life-threatening injuries and was taken to a Rapid City hospital. It is unknown at this time whether the driver was wearing a seat belt.

South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash, and all information is preliminary at this point. The names of the two men involved have not yet been released.
