One dead after motorcycle crash near Keystone

KEYSTONE, S.D. – One person died Wednesday afternoon in a vehicle-motorcycle crash south of Keystone, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

Around 1:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, a 1996 Harley Davidson motorcycle was travelling westbound on Iron Mountain Road when the driver failed to negotiate a right-hand curve. The motorcycle entered the oncoming lane and collided with an eastbound 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup.

The 58-year-old male motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.

Both occupants of the pickup, a female driver and a male passenger, were wearing seat belts and were not injured. Both are 41 years old.

Names of those people involved are not yet being released pending notification of family members.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this point.
