One dead after fatal motorcycle crash near Sturgis

STURGIS, S.D. — One man died Wednesday night in a motorcycle crash that occurred five miles west of Sturgis.

The name of the person has not been released until proper notification has been given to family members.

Around 10:40 p.m., a 2000 Yamaha XVS 1100 motorcycle was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 14A when the vehicle went off the road and hit a guardrail on the side of the road.

The driver, a 60-year-old male, was not wearing a helmet and was thrown from the motorcycle. He was pronounced death at the scene.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this point.
