Okreek man charged with assault and child abuse

OKREEK, S.D. — An Okreek man has been indicted by grand jury for assault on an intimate partner by strangulation, and suffocation and child abuse.

Sheldon Denoyer, 30, was indicted of the charges on Mar. 9, 2020 and plead not guilty the indictment on Mar. 11.

The charges came after an incident in which Denoyer allegedly and unlawfully committed  domestic assault against his partner by strangling and suffocating her on Aug. 12, 2019. The suspect was said to have further abuse, expose, torture, torment, and cruelly punish a minor child.

Charges are accusations at this point, and Denoyer is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The suspect remains in the custody of U.S. Marshals pending trial.

A trial date has not yet been set.
