Oglala Sioux Tribe voting for legalization of marijuana later this week

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Members of the Oglala Sioux are voting this week on whether to legalize medical and recreational marijuana on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

Those in favor of legalization hope it will bring economic development to one of the most impoverished areas in the country.

However, its believed the plan could also trigger a clash between federal and state authorities.

If the plan is approved, The Oglala Sioux would become the only tribe to set up a marijuana market in a state where it’s illegal.

The tribe thinks it could rake in millions of dollars by allowing dispensaries as well as a lounge for “pot”.
