Oglala Sioux Tribe President Julian Bear Runner reinstated

PINE RIDGE, S.D. — Oglala Sioux President Julian Bear Runner is back on the job after he was suspended with pay for 30-days and two weeks in quarantine last month.

Bear Runner was suspended following his executive order for an immediate 72-hour lockdown of Pine Ridge. Council members argued there was little-to-no collaboration or communication between elected leaders regarding the lockdown.

The suspension was meant to give Bear Runner time to rethink and restructure his outlook on the direction of the tribe.

Chase Iron Eyes, President Bear Runners Public Relations Liaison said,

“President Bear Runner’s suspension ends of it’s own legal force, on August sixth, his suspension is up. So as far as I‘m aware there is nothing that he has to do, the council does not have to vote.
