Oglala Sioux Tribal police release statistics for latest safe driving campaign

PINE RIDGE, S.D. – Oglala Sioux Tribal police released statistics for their latest “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Don’t Shatter the Dream” campaigns over the holiday weeks.

Saturation patrols and check points were set up between Dec. 13 and Jan. 2. Law enforcement reports 15 motor vehicle crashes during the time frame; six included injuries.

Of arrests and violations, there were,

  • 27 DWI/DUI arrests
  • 25 drug arrests
  • 3 felony arrests
  • 42 seat belt citations
  • 7 child safety seat citations
  • 12 suspended license citations
  • 139 speeding citations
  • 5 reckless driving citations
  • 245 other citations

OST Department of Public Safety officials say there were also 96 fugitives apprehended and two stolen vehicles that were recovered.

“If you used a designated driver or took an effort to make plans for the holidays, we would like to thank you for your efforts,” says an OST DPS Highway Safety Facebook post. “Change can be made if everyone tries.”
