Officials use break in the cold to search for missing 9-year-old

Serenity Dennard has been missing since Feb 3

Warmer weather allowed multiple agencies to continue the search for Serenity Dennard, 9, in areas surrounding the Black Hills Children’s Home.

19 men and women from the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Rapid City Police Department, Pennington County Search and Rescue, and Rockerville Volunteer Fire Department were involved in Wednesday’s search. No dogs were involved in the search.

The team searched in the areas northwest and southwest of the home where Serenity was last seen on Feb. 3.

According to Pennington County Spokesperson, Helene Duhamel, the outdoor search operations will not continue Thursday due to a change in weather conditions.

Duhamel added work will continue behind the scenes and snow melt will likely lead to re-searching in areas around the home.
