Officers respond to possible gunshots in the E. New York St. area

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Around 4:55 p.m. Monday evening, Rapid City Police Department officers were dispatched to 815 East New York Street to respond to gunshots being heard in the area.

When officers arrived, several individuals claimed they did not hear any gunshots, but a sawed-off shotgun was located in the area near a backpack with numerous articles of drug paraphernalia.

RCPD were not able to identify a victim or an owner to the backpack or weapon on scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
