NWS issues flood warning for Todd, Mellette Counties

TODD CO. S.D. – The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Todd County.

According to the National Weather Service in Rapid City, there is a flood warning for Western Todd County, and central Mellette County. The flood warning will remain in effect until 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Reporting gauges indicate flooding occurring near the community of Vetal along the Little White River.

They continued to say that the snow melt, ice jams, and light precipitation through Monday will lead to continued flooding. River levels may fluctuate quickly due to ice jams forming and releasing.

The NWS says locations that will experience flooding include: White River, Rosebud, Spring Creek and the Intersection of Highway 83 and White River.

They also warn people not to drive through flooded roads. They say most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
