Hobo’s Healing Heart was founded in 2014, and up until just recently, only served residents in Butte, Custer, Lawrence, Meade and Crook Counties.

Their founder, Kelly Harnett, started the organization after the death of her “once-in-a-lifetime” dog, Hobo. They provide financial assistance for emergency care, such as accidental ingestion or sudden onset illnesses.

“A lot of the time pets where the families can’t afford the treatment end up going to the humane societies, and they’re already overburdened with animals,” Harnett says. “So one of our goals is to help ease that burden by helping families keep their pets home, by helping with the costs.”

As of March 30, residents in Pennington County can now apply for assistance, but know – the organization does not help with routine vet care or spaying and neutering, and pets must be up to date on their rabies shots.
