Nine swear in to Western Dakota Tech’s school board

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A few months ago, Western Dakota Tech became the first technical school in the state to have its own governing board, separating from the Rapid City Area School Board.

All other technical schools are joined with a local K-12 school district and share the same school board.

On Wednesday afternoon, the WDT school board had its first official meeting.

Nine board members were sworn in by a judge and a few issues, such as marketing campaigns were discussed.

“We’re excited that we’re going to be able to do a much better job of serving the needs of students and small communities,” says Dr. Ann Bolman, with WDT.

The board is expected to go on a retreat in August to learn more about their duties and network with partnering organizations.

Dr. Bolam says it should take around a year and a half to fully detach from RCAS.
