New street sweeper coming to Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Public Works Committee has approved spending $267,000 to purchase a new street sweeper.

Rapid City currently has ten street sweepers and expects to retire one sweeper when a new one arrives. Public Works Director Dale Tech says that the sweepers can operate for three to eight years, depending on road conditions.

Gravel, plastics and other debris that are picked up by the street sweeper all contribute to wearing down the machine over time. “It’s a pretty harsh environment for the vacuum portion of the street sweeper,” Tech says.
