The US military introduced new rights this week for parents in uniform.

The military is doubling the amount of leave time for service members who give birth and providing leave for new parents who don’t give birth, including those who adopt and foster children long-term.

The new policy gives 12 weeks of parental leave to service members who give birth. And it also provides 12 weeks of leave for non-birth or adoptive parents.

Previously, only the birthing parent could take parental leave and it was limited to six weeks.
