New retail stores in Rapid City to bring more business and road congestion in the Rushmore Crossing area

RAPID CITY, S.D.– Besides the Old Navy store moving back into Rapid City, Rushmore Crossing will soon be home to two discount stores as well. Big Lots! and Five Below are both slated to open later this summer, bringing more shopping and job opportunities.

Old NavyBut with more retail moving in the city is working to identify areas that will require work to lessen road congestion.

“Obviously with the growth that we are seeing there, with the growth that we are seeing throughout Rapid City,” City Communications Coordinator Darrell Shoemaker said. “Some of the things that we see quite often through our planning department is traffic studies, trying to determine where in the city, with the growth patterns and so forth, where we need to make enhancements for future growth.”

There is still no word on the exact dates for either stores’ opening.

However, according to the project manager for the Old Navy, the store is still scheduled to open on time even with supply chain issues they have faced.
