New name to be unveiled Saturday for Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, arena
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Big news in store for the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center this coming weekend.
Sunday will mark the first day of construction for the $130 million dollar renovation and expansion project approved by voters in 2018.
The expansion will provide more space for food and vendors and seat over 10,000 people.
The public is invited to join city leaders in the Barnett Arena in the Civic Center to learn the name for the arena and the new name for the Civic Center.
“We’re going to make an announcement about who our naming partner is going to be and what we’re going to be calling everything,” said Priscilla Dominguez, Director of Corporate Sales and Marketing. “We will be announcing that right before we kick off the ground breaking so if you want to know and you want to see if you guess is right, you better show up.”
Dominguez would not slip any hints as to the new name but she says she loves it and is excited to share. It’s also unclear whether any other room names will remain or be changing.
The announcement will come at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Barnett Arena. The groundbreaking will follow immediately after the announcement.
NewsCenter1 will bring you the latest on the announcement Saturday.
