New museum exhibit celebrates Rapid City business
RAPID CITY, S.D. – A new exhibit opened tonight at the Journey Museum and Learning Center, celebrating Rapid City businesses that have had a lasting impact on the community.
It’s called the “Business of Business” exhibit. It showcases businesses with more than 50 years of history in the City of Presidents.
Ten businesses were selected out of 50 that were nominated to be featured.
The exhibit details the history of the businesses, as well as how they fared some of Rapid City’s most challenging times, such as the Great Depression and the Flood of 1972. Historical photos and memorabilia from each business is also on display.
The Journey Museum’s Executive Director Troy Kilpatrick hopes visitors appreciate how these businesses made Rapid City the place it is today.
“I think their contributions with employing people, creating jobs, creating economy is huge to our whole community,” Kilpatrick said. “I think we need to pay tribute to all of that. So that’s the idea behind the “Business of Business,” is we all want to live in a great place and our businesses help make it that.”
The exhibit will be open through the end of April.
