New IRS tax deadline approaching

RAPID CITY, S.D. — July 15 is the new April 15 as the delayed IRS tax deadline is only a week away.

Tax returns are due next Wednesday.

If you owe taxes, send in the money, and if you’re filing an extension, send in what you believe you owe.

However, knowing that many have lost their jobs due to the pandemic — the IRS is offering several payment options. That way, people can pay their taxes as the money becomes available.

“I feel that a CPA really is helpful especially for business owners in making sure that the deductions that you’re taking are the ones that you’re entitled to and that won’t get you in trouble for claiming thing that you’re not supposed to be claiming,” said Traci Fitting, the Tax Department Manager at Ketel Thorstenson, LLP.

The IRS also wants to remind taxpayers to beware of scammers meaning that the IRS will not contact you by phone, email, or social media. Almost all of its correspondence is by way of mail.
