New footage released of Mauna Loa eruption
Brand new video of the ongoing eruption from Hawaii’s Mauna Loa volcano was released on Wednesday.
The world’s largest active volcano started erupting on Sunday – the first time since 1984.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the lava fountains seen in the video measure 115 to 148 feet high.
According to the USGS, the lava flow at this point was several yards thick.
Officials also say the flow has come within roughly four-and-a-half miles of Saddle Road. That’s the main highway running across the center of the island of Hawaii, also known as Hawaii’s ‘big’ island.
