New affordable housing community coming to Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A new and much-needed affordable housing community is on its way to Rapid City.

Through a partnership with the Club for Boys and Lloyd Companies, ground was broken for the development of Heartland Heights Apartments.

The new apartment complex, located on Degeest Drive in Rapid City, will bring 41 new apartments to the area. The one, two, and three bedroom apartments to households whose income is within 30-60% of Rapid City’s median income.

Executive Director for the Club for Boys Doug Herrmann is excited about the partnership and the chance to give back to the community that supports it.

“Ten percent of our boys are homeless at some point during the year, and we know many more are in substandard housing. It’s very disruptive to a child and so we knew we needed to do something in this area, and we were blessed to have an opportunity to move this forward,” Herrmann said.

The new apartments will also include washer and dryers, a security system, covered bike storage, and a community room and playground. Pre-leasing for Heartland Heights Apartments will begin in early 2022 with new residents expected to move in by next summer.
