Names released in Mondays unattended deaths

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Police say they have identified the two victims of what they called unattended deaths that happened Monday night.

The call came in around 5:20 p.m. on the evening of September 20 for a report of a gunshot victim. When the officers arrived to the residence at 840 North Spruce Street, they located two deceased victims. Trisha Paxon-Dennette, 24, and her 4-year-old son, Russel Reeves, had both sustained apparent gunshot wounds.

RCPD say the investigation into the deaths of Paxon-Dennette and Reeves has been continuous and ongoing. Based on evidence recovered, multiple interviews, video surveillance, and no other persons being present during the event, the incident is currently being investigated as a child murder/adult suicide.

“The collective sympathies of the RCPD go out to the child victim in this incident,” says Chief of Police Don Hedrick. “This is a senseless tragedy, and we owe it to the victim and those affected to be open and transparent about this awful event that greatly impacts our community.”

RCPD reports the investigation remains active and ongoing.
