Name released in Gregory County fatal crash

BURKE, S.D. — A Burke juvenile male has been identified as the individual who died in a two-vehicle fatal crash east of Burke on Friday, May 22.

Around 7:20 p.m., a 1996 Chrysler Eagle Vision was traveling eastbound on South Dakota Highway 18, when it crossed the center line and collided head on with a 2012 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup, that was heading westbound while also pulling a flatbed trailer.

Zane Goitia, 16, was driving the Chrysler. He was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kaycee Martin, 29, of Burke, was driving the Ram pickup and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was transferred to the Burke hospital before being airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.

The two drivers were the only ones involved in the crash.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this point.
