Name released in fatal Sioux Falls crash

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Authorities have released the name of a 25-year-old woman who died in a two-vehicle accident in Sioux Falls on Tuesday.

The crash happened on Interstate 229, between Benson Road and Rice Street, at mile marker 9.

At around 4 p.m., Nikki Jones of Sioux Falls was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier northbound on the interstate when she suddenly veered left, crossed the median and struck a southbound 2010 Buick Lucerne driven by an unidentified 65-year-old woman.

Jones was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

The 65-year-old Buick Lucerne driver had to be extricated and was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
