Name released in fatal motorcycle crash near Sturgis

STURGIS, S.D. — Authorities have released the name of the individual who died a fatal motorcycle crash five miles west of Sturgis on Wednesday, August 26.

Paul Strain, 60, of Sturgis has been identified as the person who died in the crash.

Around 10:40 p.m., a 2000 Yamaha XVS 1100 motorcycle was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 14A when the vehicle went off the road and hit a guardrail on the side of the road.

The driver, a 60-year-old male, was not wearing a helmet and was thrown from the motorcycle. He was pronounced death at the scene.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this point.
