BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. — The name of the 77-year-old Belle Fourche resident whose life was claimed in a house fire on Sunday, February 14, has been released.

Richard L. Phillips was found dead after fire crews had extinguished the fire that had left his house completely engulfed in flames.

According to Butte County Sheriff Fred Lamphere, no foul play has been determined and preliminary autopsy reports indicate that he died due to smoke inhalation.

Sheriff Lamphere had previously said that the fire started in relation to a fireplace, however the cause is still currently under investigation.
