Multiple fire crews respond to Agate Bed Fire near Fairburn

FAIRBURN, S.D. — Wildland firefighters from around the region are battling a grass fire in east central Custer County Saturday night.

The Agate Bed Fire started about nine miles east of Fairburn between 2:00 and 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Custer County Fire, a Pennington County Fire assist team, and crews from the Buffalo Gap National Grassland and Nebraska National Grassland have all responded.

The Great Plains Interagency Dispatch Center estimates the fire has already consumed about 250 acres, although firefighters on the ground say it’s hard to get a good estimate due to the rugged terrain.

This is a developing story. NewsCenter1 will bring you more details as they become available.
