More burglaries reported in Black Hills area

CUSTER, S.D. — The Custer County Sheriff’s office is warning that there have been more burglaries reported in the area.

The burglaries have been occurring over the last several weeks at remote dwellings around Keystone, Hill City, Deerfield and Custer County.

They’ve generally targeted homes and cabins that have been vacant throughout the winter.

According to the Pennington County Sheriff’s office, the culprit or culprits have been stealing various items, including firearms.

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office is asking those who own a vacation home or rental, or have been gone for the winter, to check on their residences as soon as possible.

If you find anything unusual, such as damage, signs of forced entry or footprints in the snow, contact local law enforcement immediately.
