Monument Health offering free Melanoma Monday screenings

Monument Health / Covid 19RAPID CITY, S.D. — Monument Health dermatologists will be offering free skin cancer screenings  to recognize Skin Cancer Awareness Month.

The screenings will be on Melanoma Monday, May 2, in Rapid City and Spearfish.

The Rapid City screenings will be performed at the Community Health Center of the Black Hills, 350 Pine St., from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. You can call 605-755-7100 to schedule a screening.

The Spearfish screenings will be performed at Monument Health Dermatology, 550 E. Colorado Blvd., from 5:30 to 7 p.m. You can call 605-717-8860 to schedule a screening.

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S. according to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, with melanoma being the most serious type of skin cancer.

Skin cancer is usually curable when detected and treated early and it is also one of the most preventable forms of cancer. Long-sleeved shirts, broad brimmed hats and sunscreen lotions can all block the ultraviolet radiation that causes skin cancer.
