Monster Truck Smackdown at Black Hills Speedway

It was a monster-sized good time at the Black Hills Speedway on Saturday at the O’Reilly Auto Parts Monster Truck Smackdown.

There were two shows Saturday afternoon and evening. But for younger fans, perhaps the bigger thrill was getting a chance to go for a ride in the monster truck known as "Mississippi Nightmare."

And for older fans, there a chance to see the original monster truck — Bigfoot.

"Everyone remembers the big blue Bigfoot from 40-some years ago,” said Bigfoot driver Darron Schnell, who noted that Bigfoot has been through a number of versions. “It’s the same family of trucks. It’s chassis #19. It’s powered by a 540 cubic inch Merlin and makes about 1,500 horsepower."

The event was part of the Monster Truck Racing League and included Bigfoot, Ice Cream Man, Iluminator, X-termigator, Barbarian, and Midnight Rider.
