Monday morning accident leads to arrest

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Police were dispatched to the parking lot of the Walmart on North Lacrosse Street to check in on an accident that occurred on Monday morning, leading to one arrest.

The accident occurred at 4:15 a.m. and the reporting party told police that they had been struck by a driver who was unconscious after the accident.

Police made contact with the driver, identified as Harold Hunt, 69, or Rapid City, and noted Hunt was showing signs of impairment. Upon investigation, police found syringes and a baggie containing a white substance which field-tested positive for cocaine on Hunts person.

It was determined that Hunt was too impaired to safely operate a motor vehicle and was placed under arrest for DUI, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
