Mobile home fire claims life of Spearfish man

UPDATE (9/27) The male victim of Wednesday’s fire in Spearfish has been identified as 45-year-old Robert Douglas Brockley.

Brockley was living in the trailer that caught fire Wednesday morning, and was the only victim in the fire. Officials say that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

SPEARFISH, S.D. – A Spearfish man has died after a fire tore through his home early Wednesday morning.

Spearfish Fire and Police Departments were called to the 1100 block of Roughlock Lane just before 7 a.m. Upon arrival, law enforcement found a mobile home with fire and smoke visible.

One man was inside and safely removed but sustained serious injuries from the fire. He was treated by the Spearfish Emergency Ambulance Service and later transported to a trauma center in Greeley, CO where he died as a result of his injuries.

The identity of the victim is being withheld as part of the investigation.

First responders say they were able to directly attack and put out the fire however, the residence still sustained extensive damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Spearfish Fire and Police Departments. According to a release from the City of Spearfish, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigations, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Lawrence County Emergency Management and Spearfish Public Works staff assisted.
