MMIW exhibit coming to Journey Museum

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Journey Museum and Learning Center is partnering with the Red Ribbon Skirt Society of the Black Hills to present the instillation of “When Leaves Fall: Red Dress Exhibit” on Tuesday morning.

The exhibit honors the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Children of Turtle Island (MMIW). Seventy red dresses will be draped from the trees on the Journey Museum’s grounds, representing the 70-plus MMIW in South Dakota and across the Northern Plains.

A variety of items will also be on the ground near the dresses, reflecting the locations MMIW have been found and symbolizing the pain and suffering of the MMIW and their families.

This free exhibit will be installed on Tuesday, October 8 at 11 a.m. and will be at the museum through October 21.
