UPDATE: Escaped inmate back in custody

UPDATE (4/25/22 – 10:50 a.m.): Inmate Phillip Richards back in custody.

He was apprehended in Pennington County Monday morning.

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A minimum-custody state prison inmate has been placed on escape status.

Inmatephiliprichardsp33-year-old Phillip Richards left his work release job in Rapid City without authorization and failed to return to his assigned housing unit April 23.

Richards is a Native American male, 5′ 9″, weighs approximately 190 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.

He is is serving sentences from Bennett County for unauthorized ingestion of a controlled substance and eluding a police officer.

Anyone with any information on his whereabouts, or has seen him, is asked to contact law enforcement.
