Meteorologist/Multimedia Journalist

NewsCenter1 (KNBN-TV) has an immediate opening for a talented meteorologist with strong reporting skills to join the meteorology staff of an energetic small-market news team in a dynamic and diverse climatic region.

This position will produce dynamic graphic- and video-based content for all of NewsCenter1’s web and social media platforms, and will fill in on NewsCenter1’s broadcasts as required. This person will also contribute to NewsCenter1’s news content by reporting on general news events. The successful candidate will be comfortable handling all news situations including reporting, forecasting, severe weather reporting from the field and/or in studio.

This is a `one-man-band` style position offering experience in shooting, writing, editing and reporting.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Shoot and cover scheduled or breaking news events, as assigned
  • Write copy and edit video and sound for assigned stories
  • Produce forecast updates for NewsCenter1 website, weather app, and social media
  • Produce and present forecasts for a dynamic weather region, as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in meteorology with concentration in journalism, communications, or related degree field, or commensurate work experience
  • Strong written and visual storytelling skills
  • Strong social media skills
  • Ability to make highly technical information understandable by laymen
  • 1-2 years newsroom experience, or appropriate collegiate experience
  • A working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro or similar non-linear editing system is preferred but not required
  • Experience working with WSI Max Storm is preferred
