Men’s Basketball: Yellow Jackets, Hardrockers fall short at the East-West Challenge

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men’s basketball team is hosting the second annual East – West Challenge this weekend at the Young Center in Spearfish.

The Yellow Jackets, along with the South Dakota School of Mines, will take on Northern State and Augustana University.

Black Hills State squared off against Augustana on Friday.

The Yellow Jackets led by five at halftime. However, the Vikings rallied in the second half to win by a point, 83-82.

Matt Cartwright led Augustana with 29 points and three rebounds.

Meanwhile, Joel Scott scored 23 points for the Yellow Jackets.

Black Hills State falls to 1-2, while Augustana remains undefeated on the season.

The Yellow Jackets will host Northern State on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m.



Northern State 69, SD Mines 63

Despite a great effort by the South Dakota School of Mines men’s basketball team, the Hardrockers lost to No. 15 Northern State 69-63 on Friday at the East – West Challenge in Spearfish.

Mitchell Sueker finished with 17 points and four rebounds for the School of Mines.

Logan Elers contributed 14 points while Tristan Von Nieda and Damani Hayes both added nine points.

The South Dakota School of Mines men’s basketball team squared off against Northern State on Friday at the East-West Challenge in Spearfish. The action continues on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

The Hardrockers are now 1-2 on the season.

The School of Mines will take on Augustana University on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m. in Spearfish.
