Medicare experts offering free classes before enrollment period

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Regional Health and United Healthcare will offer free Medicare education sessions on Thursday, Sept. 19, and Friday, Sept. 20, to help the public better understand their Medicare options.

The sessions, free and open to the public, will be in the Rushmore Room at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. The Sept. 19 event runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Sept. 20 event is 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

United Healthcare says that almost 40 per cent of Medicare beneficiaries only have a “fair” or “poor” understanding of Medicare. There are 62 million Americans who are enrolled in Medicare, and thousands of eligible adults turn 65 every day.

The event is part of National Medicare Education Week, Sept. 15-21. Organizers hope to educate people before the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period, when you can change your coverage, which is from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7.

Reservations are not required, but preferred. To reserve your place in one of these classes, call 1-855-322-1154.
